Within hours of meeting, Sam Hodgson and Taylor Rae were writing their first song together. Their chemistry was immediate, both sharing a deep love for heavy harmonies and songwriting that doesn’t shy away from the ache.
Taking inspiration from groups like Simon and Garfunkel, The Milk Carton Kids, and Chaparelle, the Austin-based duo is carrying folk forward with a sharper edge. Their layered harmonies and bittersweet lyrics bring the kind of melancholy that feels less like sadness and more like truth.
They call their emerging sound “Sour Folk” – a strain of folk music that leans into emotional depth rather than away from it. It brings a little more bite to the genre, and paves a natural landing spot for their band name–Lemongrass.
